Payit by NatWest has teamed up with Wetherspoon pubs up and down the UK to give you more choice when ordering and paying at your table. Payit is now a payment option in the Wetherspoon app, so you can pay without needing a credit/debit card or bank details.
Here are some tips to get you started…
Stay app-to-date
For the best experience, make sure you have your bank’s app downloaded to your phone and up-to-date (you don’t have to bank with NatWest). And of course, make sure you’ve got the Wetherspoon app, too.
Payit uses Open Banking, so that your bank can ‘talk’ to the Wetherspoon app easily, quickly and most importantly, securely. If you don’t have your banking app on your device, the Wetherspoon app will try to launch the browser (website) version of your online banking. This will work, but it’ll take longer than just ‘click-click-done’.
Fingers or face recognition active
Keeping customers and their money safe is always number 1 on our list, so when using Payit, the app will use the powerful security on your phone. Make sure your biometric security (fingerprint or face recognition) is activated, so your bank can be confident it’s actually you buying the seventh bowl of sticky toffee pudding.
Make your Android behave
Sometimes (just sometimes) Samsung phones may refuse to automatically open your banking app when paying with Payit. This is easily fixed:
1. Go to ‘Settings’ on your mobile.
2. Select 'Apps' then' Samsung internet' then 'Samsung internet features'.
3. Select 'Useful features' then ensure 'Open links in other apps' is turned on.
Your bank’s not listed
Payit by NatWest works with most UK banks including the big high street names. There are a few smaller banks that aren’t currently part of Open Banking (OB). If your bank isn’t listed in the Wetherspoon/Payit app, it’s likely that your bank isn’t one of those taking part... yet. Get in touch with them to see when they’re joining the OB revolution.
Wetherspoon QR or app?
Pay at your table in Wetherspoon by downloading the Wetherspoon app , and simply select Payit at checkout.
You can also use the QR code you’ll see on the menu and around the pub. This will take you to the browser (website) version of the Wetherspoon app, and you can easily pay with Payit by NatWest here.
Hopefully, our top tips have got your well on your way to ordering your bangers and mash or OJ and lemonade. If not, look for a banking app FAQ on your bank’s website, or you can find out more about Payit on our Help & Support pages here. Cheers.
